My name is Tony Lamond. I grew up in a small town called Hersham approximately 15 km outside London. I was 25 years old when I decided to travel through Asia on my way to Australia. The year was 1989.
I was so impressed with the natural beauty of Malaysia and especially Tioman, I returned in 1991 to work for a local dive operator, with whom I had dived on my first visit. After two seasons he retired and I had to decide whether to return to the UK or continue on my own. For me the decision was easy.
I built my own dive center on the island and rented accommodation for my guests from the villagers. During this time I met and married Lina, a Malaysian. A year later we got the opportunity to buy five acres of land with it's own secluded bay located in the south of Tioman and beneath the legendary 'twin peaks'.
With ten-years running my own business in London, the diving experience and Lina's hotel and catering background, we believed we had the night ingredients to create "MINANG COVE".
Whilst developing the resort, we tried to retain all the natural beauty and follow the traditional Minang style. The resort took three years to complete with many trips to the main land, as everything comes by boat.
We at Minang Cove team look forward to welcoming you.
