A stunning scenic island off the coast of Malaysia and washed by the South China Sea lies Tioman Island. This, the largest and most spectacular of Peninsular Malaysia's east coast islands is 39km long and 12km wide. The island is covered in dense jungle and high Mountain peaks meaning only the coastal areas have been inhabited. There are five villages on Tioman. Some have not changed their traditions and are still dependent on the island growing fruits, vegetables and fishing. Fresh water is abundant. Streams and waterfalls are found all over the island. As an indication of the island's abundant natural beauty, Tioman is generally regarded as the setting for the mythical Bali Hai in the film South Pacific. It's no wonder Tioman has been given the title - 'one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world'. |
